Can We Really Negotiate?by Wagner & Bloch
Believe it or not, yes.
It may come as a surprise, but two people who have decided to no longer be married can actually sit in a room together to negotiate the terms of their separation. It is helpful to have attorneys and possibly other people such as mediators, family relations specialists or financial specialists in the room as “buffers.” These people make the room less contentious by spreading your attention out from just your spouse.
Our job as trained negotiators is to ease into the topics and discussion by talking about similar goals and interests that you and your spouse may have. For instance, you both may want what is best for your children or you both may want to complete the divorce as quickly and inexpensively as possible. These are just some general goals, but they help to give you an idea of how the process works. Our attorneys at Wagner & Bloch also try to make an agenda before and after each meeting so that everyone can stay on task and be prepared for the topics in advance. Please call us at 513.751.4420 to schedule a time discuss your matter in more specific detail.
